Snow snow and more snow

It has been snowing hard overnight and is still snowing. winter  weather hasn't gone woohoo so I can still playin the snow. I got covered with the white stuff when out this morning and it is still falling down. Been watching it for teh last 4 hours and it is still falling in big lumps.

My mum cna't get out and she is worrying. I am worrying too as my dog food  container is empty. I have a can of spare dog food  the id diet stuff left from a trip tot he vet so will get htat for my dinner tonight. Tomorrow my mum said I will get fresh fish and rice made up from things in her freezer. She said I wouldn't starve . Hope not but this white stuff is not going away just yet and unless  it goes soon this guide dog will be getting thinner.

All the roads around us are blocked and it is quiet outside not many people moving aroud.  Still like the snow but it is getting a bit boring as it has been here now for over 10 days and not going out to work or to the park is not very nice for a big dog like me.

Nushka's Birthday

I, guide dog Nushka am five years old today. It is still snowing outside but we had a bit of a thaw yesterday so a little of the snow has gone from teh path my mum cleared a little. But the other snow is still deep around us.

As a treat for my birthday I got a special bone shaped treat that was delicious and I gobbled it up in quick time. I also got a reindeer style toy witha squeak in it that sounds brilliant and I picked it up and wandered around teh sitting room in circles squeaking it  making my mum laugh.

I am now heading back to my bed for a lie down before I go back out into teh snow for a run around in teh back garden.

I still love eating he snow even teh bits that are frozen.  My mum has promised me an extra christmas toy as I did't get a proper biirthday present.

I was sick over my ne dog bed earlier in November so think I may get a wsahable dog bed as that one got put out in the rubbish as the sick smell stuck over iteven when my mum had washed it threet imes. My big plastic bed is nice but is hard so needs a thick blanket on it tokeep it comfy for me to lie down. I don't like the bead beds as it curnches and makes too much noise for me and I bit hte last one I had so all teh white balls in it were like snow on the floor but I did't eat them as they smelled horrible. Not like the real fluffy snow.

Happy birthday to me .....

Midge

Midge was my Mum's second guide dog before me, Nushka. Midge was a large very intelligent lady just like me and was a full German shepherd. She was a week off two years old when my mum trained wiht her back at teh guide dog training centre in Forfar, Scotland. It again was residential for a month but my mum got to go home just a few days short of this to do after care work on the island of lewis.

Midge took her mum to college on the main land and introduced her to her husband while studying at Elmwood Colege in Fife while she also was residential at RNIB Alwyn House in Ceres, Cupar Fife.
Midge flew many times and travelled much more than Dino and took her mum to the Chanel islands on holiday.

Midge was the flower girlie at her mums wedding to Tom and she also helped her a lot when her dad died.

Midge worked amazingly till she was 12 years old and was retired to her mum and Tom in Stirling Scotland and passed away suddenly on 2nd May just a day after her 14 birthday.

Dino

Dino was my Mum Janette's first guide dog. He arrived on teh scene over 20 years before me. My mum got him in January 1996 at Forfar guide dog training centre in Scotland. He was a yellow labrador and not at all what my mum exxpected as she said she wanted a black dog like the labradors she had grown up with. Dino didn't work long as he had a bone disease and had to retire at 5 and a half years old but lived in retirment till he was 14 years old. Not a bad age for a dog to live.

Dino was a stubborn male and was very headstrong but he didn't anticipate being given to a strong willed lady who knew how to work a dog like him and put up with no nonsense. He was a good working guide dog and very happy at his work on the island of Lewis in teh outer Hebrides.

This was teh main place where he worked and often visited the mainland to his Mum's parents at Caol, a wee village near Fort William. Dino flew on planes and often worked in strange places and in London.

That was a little bit about Dino and will insert a image of him if I can in a moment.

He looks like a very nice dog. I'm waggng my tail  as I write this as I know he was a happy dog and he looked after my mum really well as he was her first guide dog and ti was all very new to both of them way back in 1986.

Nushka's first post to her blog

My name is Nushka, and I am a working guide dog in Scotland. My mum has had guide dogs before and I am her fourth guide dog. I am four years old and will be five in December - actually my birthday is tomorrow 2nd of December if I can remember corectly - after all I am only a dog. But a very special dog as I am my Mum's eyes. I am a black Labrador crossed witha a German Shepherd. I am fluffy and look at my tail, isn't it huge.

I can't get out to work today as we have had lots of that fluffy cold stuff you call snow. It is fantastic as I can bound about in it as it flies up in the air and I catch it in my mouth. I eat it when I get the chance and often do when my Mum won't hear me but I give myself away with my snow covered nose and head. My mum is bored as she can't get to take me out or should be the other way around. I guide her everywhere but in teh snow it is unsafe. Why do those w people who shovel snow put it up onto the pavements where I would like to walk with my mum. It is unfair as I am not permitted to take my mum to walk in themiddle of the road if the pavements are there. Even walking in teh road isn't safe as cars skid and slip on hte ice and snow. I won't be taking my mum out any time soon. I will just have to play in the snow for now and work later when we can.

Okay will have to go as my mum is coming back. Smug smirk - yes not only am I a fantastic guide dog but I can also use a computer. My mum works on one each day and has fun on it in the evening. So I have watched and listened. Yes I am one smart girlie.

Woof Woof to you all tonight.
